John Carter is a captain who comes from virginia. At that time he was living in an atmosphere of civil war. After the war he was transferred to Arizona and became a gold prospector there. However, he received opposition from the local population. One of them was Colonel Powell, who pressed him to fight the Apache tribe. Carter turned it down. So Colonel Powell’s attempts at escape were frequent but never successful.
One day Carter was able to escape Powell’s confinement. In the midst of this chase, they met an Apache tribe who actually reversed the situation so that Powell and Carter are now their prey. They hide from the Apache in a sacred cave. That’s where Carter can suddenly move to Mars.
On Mars, Carter must face off against a green-skinned barbarian, nicknamed Tharks, led by Tars Tarkas. He also could not avoid being a prisoner of the native Mars inhabitants.
Not wanting to be a prisoner all the time, Carter then fled. On his escape, he met Dejah Thoris, Princess Helium. This meeting made John realize that he was in the middle of a war between Martians. Carter realizes that the Tharks who once held him hostage are not evil, there are still residents of Zodanga, with their leader, Sab Than and also the Therns, the White Martians with their treacherous leader, Matai Shang (Mark Strong).
